RICE PAPER SCISSORS

Our inaugural Rice Paper Scissors Pop-Up was a hit! We were fortunate enough to have some friendly Mission folks offer up their enchanting tree-lined terrace in the name of all things Vietnamese and scrumptious. As fate would have it, we celebrated the Tet Holiday under a canopy of cherry blossoms, red envelopes, little lights, and a balmy night sky.

We want to thank the 100+ folks that came out and got down with this classic Vietnamese pastime. It was exactly how we envisioned it: hungry eaters feasting at tiny tables and even smaller stools, an assortment of condiments and herbs, as well as Shrimp Chips and tart tangerines from start to finish. The sight of two kids crouching over a bowl of pho, as if they were in any other alley in Saigon, lingers in our minds. Streetside dining at it’s cutest.

After 2.5 exhilarating hours, we served up the last of our snail pho, crab glass noodles and other Vietnamese delights. We didn’t expect to sell out, at least not that early! Our apologies to the folks who couldn’t get a taste, but no worries, we’ll be popping up again next month in another sidewalk venue.

In the future, we’ll be inviting our street food friends to do a Southeast Asian-inspired dish. There’s already talk of a banh mi pizza and Vietnamese coffee ice cream — you’ll just have to check back next month to see what unfolds.
